Course Description
This e-learning course is a self-paced learning program that supports the fundamental knowledge requirements, engages critical thinking, and assesses understanding of basic concepts and procedures. This course also exposes participants to other learning opportunities and encourages participation in the GC Digital Forensics community of practice lead by senior forensics analysts. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to provide entry-level support to departmental digital forensics requirements and advise on their own capability to support those objectives.
Course Objectives
- Identify the GC legislation and policies that apply to digital forensics activities
- Identify the roles of lead security agencies in support of GC digital forensics
- Identify GC and external resources to support digital forensics including sources of expertise within the GC
- Describe the analytical process
- Describe the high-level digital forensics process and the potential tools, techniques and procedures employed within each phase of the process
- Explain chain of custody/preservation of evidence in a variety of situations
- Contribute to development of forensics analysis reports and related documentation
- Support departmental planning, conduct and post-analysis of digital forensics activities

Target Audience
Digital Forensics in the GC is a non-technical course aimed at introducing new or aspiring digital forensics analysts and specialists to GC policies, procedures, practices, tools, techniques and emerging standards that support digital forensics in the GC. The course is also intended for supervisors and managers who may be responsible for overseeing digital forensics activities.
